But what I'm talking about in particular is this guy that boB seemed to somehow attract the ire of who works as some sort of video stringer either for the tv stations or the Topukka Krapital Urinal -- the one horse noosepaper of the town. Anyway, bob posted a video to Youtube of the bridge implosion in town. He creatively took clips that he shot, and combined them with some clips he took off of the teevee and internets. Apparently, some of the video was shot by this stringer guy, who immediately began making noise about boB stealing some sort of copywrite. Well the long and short of it is that he made so much noise and whined and cried about suing everybody under God that Youtube went ahead and yanked boB's videos and profile. Sort of sux when you think that boB probably could easily use the fair use argument about his use of the video to make comedic commentary. Basically all he did was make a music video that used the implosion to form a tecno like beat. It was pretty creative and actually pretty funny. If you ask me, the guy's real beef was that somebody in his town has a video camera and a little more creativity than he. I told boB he should start looking for opportunities to shoot as a string for the paper.
So, anywayz, for the past few weeks, somebody who calls himself moviemaking has been posting acidic comments to anything remotely associated with boB. Take note if you check out his Youtube profile that he has not bothered to bless the world with examples of what he is capable of. He just criticises. So maybe in a case of mistaken identity he will do what petty tyrants do best and try to get my profile yanked. We'll see. One thing is for sure, this guy needs to do something about his problem. He wants to be a video professional obviously, but he hasn't put forward the effort to make his dream a reality. He reminds me of a guy I once knew who wanted to be a law enforcement professional, only he didn't want to put in the time and effort to become one, so he bought some lights and police radios and put them all on his $400.00 car. There were peels of laughter everywhere he went. I am also kind of getting sick of the attitudes of print media when it comes to the new reality of web video. They are all getting into it in an effort to open a competive market with television media. However, they seem to want to shut down any possible sources of competion. They seem to be the first ones to go crying about copywrite infringement when somebody uses one of their clips for something. Long gone are the days when newspapers had a monoply on news. But they seem to want to protect their turf, even at the expense of the coopetition that all media outlets enjoy to get the work done. Coopetition by the way is a term that means that competitors compete, except when by doing so they accomplish nothing but pissing each other off and destroying the chances that anyone can get the task accomplished. A good example would be when someone wants to do an interview, and all the stations are there with their cameras rolling. Often stations, which know that everybody is going to get that same interview, do it at once to spare the interviewee the experience of having to do the same interview many many times. That accomplishes nothing but creating frustration for the interviewee. Psssst... don't even try to explain this to our Topeka newser looser wannabe.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about..... Look at the other Phelps protest videos, and you'll see this guy has a real case of the ass about boB's videos.
In other news of the day, It looks like things are going ok with the house.
I worked with Sherita today on this story... It's a very interesting debate.
