Midweek -- Russell & the Minutemen

Wednesday 31 January 2007

02:01: Here is the Story
that Nancy and I worked on Tuesday. I came to woik today and I was sort of tired for some reason. Today is the day Nancy and I went to start on the story about the artist named Russell who is residing at the homeless shelter. We tried to involve some Crossroads artists in trying to get this guy some help, but so far everybody has let Nancy and Russell down. So we are starting this story without the help. Then we had to do our story for today which is about the minutemen.

You have new Picture Mail!, originally uploaded by studestevo.

This is our liveshot at the Waldo Library on the Minutemen.

I refer to my work of fiction about the second American civil war. I talk about the someday vote of the Mexican Plebiscite, which will bring into being a new word I learnded today Aztlan
. Here
is my fictional work....

Just now the police were at our door looking for the previous owners. Something about one of their cars may be stolen. It was scary. I was working on saving my edited stuff onto a dvd. This stuff here....

11:49: It is snowing outside. There's no food in the fridge, so I'm contemplating checking out the new Town Topic on big Johnson's drive. I want to see if it is similar to something like this...

Thursday 1 February 2007

00:32: The countdown to spring begins. THAT is my favorite time of year. Anywayz I woiked with Tess today. We did a folo on her story about Police abuse in KCMO. That story is here
. The story is getting a lot of local
and national
attention.

I made it to Town Topic today. For some reason a lot of people could not handle the responsibility of driving in this weather. I saw a lot of wrecked vehicles and most all of them were ass you be's. I think people are a bit too over confident in those things. I ordered the truck stop. Yep, the building was manufactured by Valentine Diners
. I had to take alternate routes because of the aforementioned assaholic drivers causing wrecks and shutting down the freeways
. The truck stop was delish....

Rolling Blog: Friday off -- shopping, Suyen worked

22:14 -- Crave Cafe. We haven't visited here in a while. Suyen hates YJ's -- I think because they have the music up loud, but right now the music here is pretty loud too along with the people all talking above it. I don't mind the noise of life. Some people are put out by it and have to have everything pin drop quiet before they can function. The same is true for sleeping -- things have to be absolutely dark and still before people can sleep -- unless they are already sleeping in which case a nuclear bomb could go off and most people cannot be awakened. I think it's just being spoiled. If you are tired you could sleep through anything and if you have to get the job done, you can work through anything.

Friday 26 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

I got up today and took Tima for a walk in English Landing Park in Parkville, Missouri. Parkville is the home of Park University. It also has a thriving downtown antique mall scene going on. the park is a very popular spot for people to walk their children/pets or to run. It is right between the Missouri River and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Tracks. When I walk here I take my video camera to catch some trains. Today it was apparent that parts of the park don't see any winter maintenance as the ways were full of ice, slush and mud. It made for some good exercise and some heavy boots. We saw three trains -- one mixed frieght northbound with a damaged hopper car on a flat after the two engines. The other two were coal trains -- probably the first and second section heading up to a coal fired power plant called Iatan which is a few miles northwest of here.

While walking, I thought about something a school teacher friend of mine said to me -- I don't know if this is true, I haven't verified it but -- it goes that the average intelligence for Americans IQ wise is about 75. That means that half of us fall below that level. I always thought that 75 was borderline retarded. Well the point is that for whatever reason there are a lot of folks around who don't have a whole lot going for them coming out of the gate. So then I think about all the problems with crime and how society deals with it -- or doesn't. I mean, we have a human resourse management problem in this world. Actually, what I started thinking about was American Idol, and how a big part of the first couple of shows is all about making fun of and haranging the poor shmoes who don't seem to have a clue that their talents are best not taken out of the shower. My thing is that it seems like there is this big set up to get these people on the show and to have them make asses out of themselves just for pure stupid entertainment value. It is a train wreck that I'd rather not witness, but many people seem to think it is funny -- sort of like laughing at a retarded person or a fat kid. Then I was given the counter point that hey, these people deserve it. If they are that deluded or if they are trying to bring some attention on themselves by playing the fool, then they deserve to be laughed at. I thought about that for awhile, then I thought about what my friend said. What if it is true? What if 1/2 of all of us are not that bright. I mean, think about all the stupid criminals you've ever heard of, and then think of how it made you feel -- that perhaps jail is the best place for them because they clearly cannot take care of themselves. I think if you watch American Idol, you might want to take note that many of these people who are being rejected in the most cruel of means -- picked on -- made fun of, are people who actually have dreams, and are having those dreams crushed on national television. Maybe they do deserve it. But you know what, maybe you deserve it too. Maybe I deserve it. Maybe we all deserve it. Or perhaps, we all deserve a chance to try, and even if we are awful at what we are trying to do, maybe it is best if we do it, and are respectfully told the truth -- not made fun of or picked on or made a fool of. I have noticed a lot of people who are too afraid to try to do anything. To me, those are the real losers. So too are the Simons of the world, who pick on others efforts, like we all owe someone like him some entertainment. Simon is very entertaining, but for the wrong reasons. It is kind of like being in traffic and watching that guy in front of you have an anuerism at every slight infraction to his patience and time. We are all trying to get there. Some of us think that everyone else owes them more though. Simon speaks the truth you say and you are probably right. However, there are many people in his position who do that kind of thing every day -- and they do it in a way that is compassionate, graceful and respectful. Why do we find it so entertaining to find someone who has an obvious inferiority complex overcompensating for that on national tv?

Saturday 27 January 2007

11:23 -- I just got up after a long night. I wanted to go out but Suyen got mad at me for wanting to leave her home alone. The plan was originally for her to be at work, but she came home instead. I spent the evening taking the stuff we got a JC Penny and arranging the living room. It looks dry now, but with some finishing touches it will come along.

Saturday 27 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

I spent last night re-arranging the living room. We got a TV stand at JC Penny Outlet for $29.00. We got some curtains because Suyen doesn't want the world seeing her walk around the house alone. I moved the TV to the south wall of the living room and arranged the couch and loveseat in an L shape to form a nice living area. I moved the end tables to where they are more useful. You can even see Jack in the picture.

Saturday 27 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

We got this little table for $49.00 at JC Penny. It is a nice little intimate breakfast nook. We had the chairs already so we are putting them to good use.

Another rolling blog maybe?

14:30 -- I'm in the doctors office with Suyen. She is here have her high blood pressure checked. She woiked last night on a case and is quite tired now. We may be getting a new fridge later today. I went into woik with the cherrybomb to get the van so we could haul some excess garbage to Bates City from our house. They will only allow two bags, and I'm trying to clean up the left over residue of the previous occupants of our house. On the way to the station, I was stopped dead on 169 by traffic waiting for the President who is in Lee's Summit speechifying today. It is frustrating that they just don't close down the whole highway as they have a convenient place to block it off at the ramp, and people can detour down I-29. But NO, they have you go until you can't turn around with no signs or anything, so there you are stuck! I got the van, and stopped at Surplus Exchange on the way back. I got two Bunn professional coffee makers. One for us and one to ship to the Philippines if anyone were interested, or maybe both are for us when we host parties or what not. At $20.00, that is a good buy even for a used one. I picked up Suyen and got the garbage (now I'm Arlo Guthrie) hopefully I won't run into officer Obie in Bates City. I won't be letting our little pile of garbage join any big piles of garbage at the bottom of a ravine. Suyen promptly chewed me out for the coffee machine purchase, and we headed on our way. At the split of 169 and I-29 southbound, I made the mistake of asking Suyen if she'd like to see Air Force One. WEeeellll, this time the motorcade was coming back from Lee's Scummit, soooo, we got stuck the second time --- D'oh!

14:48 -- In the waiting room wating. While waiting I uploaded some pix.....

Wednesday 24 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

Tess and I did a story about the KCMO snow plow drivers being accused of plowing too fast and breaking out local businesses windows. We went to Gaines Furniture Outlet who claims to have $7000.00 worth of damage, and while there, the owner of the building at 1924 main approached us and told us his antique stained glass was broken as well, so we went there and got pix and sound with him. We did our lives at 9 and 10 there.

Thursday 25 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

When I got up today, Suyen came home. We had brekkus and then she retired to bed before having to go out to the doctors. I gave her an old fashioned tuck in. She complained she couldn't move and she looked like a coccoon. I went on to trade the cherrybomb for the van then onto Surplus Exchange.

Thursday 25 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

Here Suyen is waiting in Dr. Scott's waiting room.

We will schedule appointments with heart doctors to do some preventative check ups. Dr. Scott says Suyen is just suffering from stress on her muscles and nerves in her neck and arms.

Friday 26 January 2007

00:32 -- I'm at home in our office getting ready to go to beddie. We got our Fridge...

Thursday 25 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

We got our Fridge. Nebraska Furniture Mart was having a sale. Wooo Hooooo!

We stopped by the Sears Outlet first, but their prices were not as great as we thought. We had to go somewhere to compare the prices. So we went to the trailer first to check on it and dump our trash. Going to the trailer makes Suyen sad. It is a part of our life that is passing by. Afterward, we headed via I-70 to Nebraska Furniture Mart. They were having a sale. We found a double door LG in the sales section. It was listed at $999.00, minus 12% for the sale they were having on excess appliances. In the end it cost us about $1000.00, which is not bad for a fridge these days.

My weekend and my Moanday....

Here is the Story
Kim and I did on Saturday.

Sunday I worked with Rob on an 82 year old man who fell in the ice on Moanday at his store in Independence.

Moanday, I did vo patrol and helped John with a problem solvers segment. I eng'd lives for John and Tess.

Tuesday I edited another Nancy Lewis piece
on the family that believes in faith healing.

Wednesday 17 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

Tess and I had a story about the KCMO school district debating weather or not to get rid of middle schools. The school superintendant came to the meeting held at Paseo High school to give his views on it.

Thursday 18 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

Winter is so harsh, yet beautiful. I mean, every task takes so much longer and is so hard to accomplish in winter, but yet, when you stop and take in the sights, oh the things you see. I tried to quickly get some pix of trees in our back yard coated with ice before it all melted.

Thursday 18 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

Our new house sits on a hill, so we can see down through the trees to the neighbors below.

Saturday 20 January 2007, originally uploaded by studestevo.

On Friday 19 January, we went to Nebraska Furniture Mart and got a dining room set for our bedroom (kidding, we got it for our dining room). With help from our neighbors we got the heavy stuff in the proper room. It took some doing as it didn't exactly fit through the front door. With some dismantling and coaxing, and a nearly busted window, we finally got it. To celebrate the next day, Suyen fixed a special candlelight dinner of turkey drumsticks, rice and veggies.

OK, so we foolishly went roaming around in the snow. Thank God for 4 wheel drive. We went to Sears outlet, which was closed, then to the Asian Market to get Suyen's fish. Then we made our way to YJ's for hot chocolate. I got some pix outside of the falling snow. It was still going strong at 8 o'clock at night. We then went to Worst Buy before going to QT to fuel up before heading homo.
