Saturday 25 and Sunday at the end of 2006

Here is mine and Bob's story from yesterday.

Here are our lives from this morning - Mine and Kim's that is....

When I was done with woik, Debbie, Megan and Mathew met me at the station followed by Suyen. We went up to the new house to show it off. I told Mom and Dad about the house. They didn't seem to happy about the news. After the grand tour, we treated Debbie and family to Oklahoma Joe's. Mmmm. I teased Megan about her choice of Music. I'm officially an old man now. After leaving there, we got our cars and went to Debbies. The power was out due to some assident close by, so Debbie lit her many candles. We thought there was going to be another assident with a fire. I got Megan intrigued about old school punk and diy, I think, or maybe I'm just showing my age;)

Here's some pix from Saturday....

On Saturday Bob and I did a story about a couple who is celebrating their 60th anniversary. I took this picture on top of the Liberty Memorial. 60 years ago, he proposed to her up here.

We closed on our new house!

When I am on call or at work and driving in my "office" other than the road, this is the most looked at object in my car. The scanner is going constantly. I just got this from work two weeks ago.

On Thursday I spent a quiet day shopping. The after xmess rush is done and it is safe to go into the stores again. I went down Metcrap avenue in O.P. and on my way back up I snapped a picture of this landmark on the north part of Metcrap. It is the White Haven Motor Lodge, which is named after the family that owns it, the Whites, it is not a statement about segregation in Overland Park. Anyway, this sign is a great landmark. There are other great examples of googie in this area. I hope to eventually get pictures of all of them.

Here is the backside of our new house. Today we closed on our house. Suyen worked overnight at MTN, and only got about an hours worth of sleep. We went into Blue Springs to the title company to sign. Man, I got writers cramp from that. The housewarming party is TBA. Until then, there is a little cleaning to do and moving. We met the sellers as they were getting the last of their stuff. We also met the neighbors who all came out to introduce themselves and welcome us to the neighborhood.

Here is another view of the backside of the house. It was built in 1983. The neighborhood -- Hidden Lakes, is full of these modern contemporary houses. I call this Late Century Modern.

ENG'ing lives... vo patrol day

Gerald Ford died today. When I came into work, I found I was on vo patrol and my first assignment was to meet a guy who was at the Republican National Convention which was in Kansas City. He had collected a lot of memorabilia. I was told this would be an anchor package. Here is the Fox 4 take on today. That includes what became of my effort, which was a vo/sot instead of a package.

I instead was sent to get van 1 to shoot a live shot with Leslie and Bob down in Ooolathe. The suspicious death of Saturday is now being investigated as a murder and her boyfriend is the lead suspect. I was supposed to bring them a tape, but in my haste at trying to get the truck to them so they could edit, I forgot it. So, comedy of errors, Sam, our desk person, had to send Rachael, our new photog out with the tape. Ooops. Either way, a change of mind was had, and I was to turn around and take van 1 downtown to eng Tess' live. However, Sam and I agreed to take the truck to Leslie so that she could log and edit as much as she could until the SNG truck got there.

So we did that, and afterward, I made that long trek up I-35 to the downtown loop. I set up for Tess' live, which was a folo on the story we did yesterday. I am glad to see that we could get a shot out despite the Sprint arena being built in the path of our microwave signal.

I now begin two days off, WOOOO HOOOO!

St. Stephens Day

St. Stephen's Day

St. Stephen

Today I worked with Tess. Our first story was a follow up on the suspicious death I shot in Olate on Saturday. It looks like police want to charge someone with her death. However, we got switched off that story to breaking news. A 71 year old man was found murdered in his garage. Here is a synopsis of our story.

We had no live tonight. Jason tried to get a live out but the area is too low to get a live signal out.

As with no live, I was able to go to YJ's for a hot chocolate....

I went to YJ's after my work was done. I had a hot chocolate and sat in the new "booth" chair by the window.

X-mess is over, now let the true season begin!

All the shopping, all the stress, spending what you don't have and missing out on the things that are truely important. I'm glad it's all over. Now, after Christmas evening, the quiet holiday time begins. It is a nice peaceful time between Christmas and New Years when the rush is over and the season can truely be enjoyed. It is a reflective time to look back on the year and to look forward to the future.

So after working my 6 to 2 shift on Sunday I got to go home to Christmas. I had no lives that morning but went around to breaking news. Then I worked with Bob. We shot a story where a family of a soldier in Iraq talked about Christmas without him. We presented them with a military greetings vhs copy of his greeting. I did some last minute shopping at HIV in Blue Springs -- getting some candy for our stockings. Then I came home, and Suyen and I loaded up our gifts and Tima and went to Debbies for Christmas eve. We had dinner, sat around and watched "It's a Wonderful Life" which Suyen has never seen, and then we opened a few gifts. Then we rushed to my parents. We hung out for a bit. I opened the espresso machine we bought ourselves for Christmas, and it works really great. Dad had 3 espresso's! Then we went to midnight mass at Redemptorist. It was really nice and they had a small orchestra this year with the chior. I had to try to keep Suyen awake through the mass.

Christmas day we woke up tired. We had breakfast and opened presents. The espresso machine that Suyen and I bought at RSO works great. We then watched "All the King's Men" and Mom fixed me a little Christmas dinner before I had to head out to woik.

At woik I was on vo patrol. I did Rob's liveshot, then I drove around and listened to the scanner. I was feeling tired around 9, so I stopped at the one place that was open, which was Grinders, and had a pepsi. I then had 6 hot wings -- the "wimpy" wings. They were good. Then the evening was over. No really big breaking news tonight. So I headed to my parents and had some Christmas dinner. Then Suyen and I loaded up with Tima, and we headed home.

Here are 3 of 4 local stations present at the scene of the club shooting. Channel 5 was across the street.

More December Violence

Today I worked my 10 to 6 Shift with Bob. Last night someone could not contain their anger and shatred shooting a a club full of strangers. It's a shame, because this club was the social center for a lot of lonely elderly people. While we were doing our liveshot, a lot of the elderly patrons showed up and had to go home disappointed.

We came here to join the media feeding frenzy to do our lives for 5 and 5:30.
