Ok, this is probably a smudge or a crack, or .... who knows? I shot a little antique bueareau by the front door to do a rack focus. In the dirt and dust on the cracked mirrior you can see a face and torso looking back at you. So, somebody has to go back to that mirror and see if is still there.

August 23 & 24 Dashcam Timelapse

I'm sooo behind in my personal editing. These are timelapses shot from the Dashcam in my Odyssey. The first part is Suyen's first official trip to work from home in Bates City to Westwood and the Midwest Transplant Network. The nightime stuff is from a liveshot in Grandview I did with Steve, where we had the blazer and the livetruck. I took the blazer to go check on someones house between liveshots -- killling two birds with one stone. The last part is driving around downtown KCMO, when I had to take Suyen to get a shot. Then we had brekkus in Westport at the Corner Restaurant. Later that day I was getting some of midtown with my dashcam and a getting a nice view of downtown from the south. At the end is an editing mistake, which sort of worked well with the song I've chosen to edit the vid to -- "Hot Rail" by the Federation of Horsepower -- a local Kansas City Rock band. I hope they don't mind my using the song.

Suyen's 40th irthday

For Suyen's birthday, I took her to a casino butt fey where we grazed til we could graze no more. Then for a surprise, though I was told not to by Suyen, I found that one of the staff there has a great birthday singing voice, so while Suyen was getting another load, I contacted one of the waitresses, and it was arranged. Despites Suyens dour warnings of something bad happening if I tried this again (I've done it every year) she was quite surprised, and I'd say -- pleased.



Here is the birthday we had a week after her birthday at my parents house....

Fox 41 was so cheesy back then. It's funny how all that stuff that was going on in 92/93 was really the death knell for what was really good in the local music scene back then. By 1994 it was over. All the bands decided they had to play pop punk or ska to get noticed and no one wanted to hear about grunge any more except the mullet heads who liked alice in chairs. Now grunge has morphed into meth rock rockin' the single wides off the cinder block and who cares except for the drunk high school drop outs who don't have a clue except lets find new ways to kill ourselves. Fox 41 fired their "see ya" news director and hired another, then another then another, and Fox 41 became NBC 41 and NBC 4 became Fox 4 and NBC 41 still hasn't figured out how to get out of last place, but god love em, they did some good things in the effort -- like doing feature documentaries on the end of their newscasts for a couple of years. However, unfortunately, the fickle local news tv audience in Klans ass Shitty barely noticed over the din of drug dealing thugs killing each other in the headlines every night, til we are all so sick of dealing with it ad nauseam breaking wind breaking wind. I keep thinking local news is about quality journalism and get proven wronger every day. But back then, in Lawrence as in everywhere else, as then as now, it was mostly about who had the time and the money and the gumption to create a buzz about yourself and your "scene" and rarely was it about bands and audiences getting together to create an actual scene. It was and is more about being seen and not being the scene.

It is baseball playoffs season. That means many late nights waiting for the ballgame to end so we can go on with our late news. On this evening we are waiting to go live from Shawnee Mission North High School where a vigil was held in memory of two students who died in a car crash in southern Missouri. We couldn't go live on school grounds, so we had to go live elsewhere.

We did the house inspection on the house on Agnes. It cost us $535.00. The inspector was very thourough. He found some things that needed to be fixed. We listed those items to the seller and got word back that they weren't going to fix any of them, that they lowered the price on the house enough and we should accept it. We found that out on Saturday 7 October. At first we were going to just ask for fewer things to get fixed. Then we thought it over and backed out of the deal. Afterward they were willing to deal with us giving us more concessions than we asked for. We even heard that the realtor was going to try and pull a fast one on us and try to force us to deal or take us to court, which was really underhanded and unfair. However, in the end, we decided to totally go in another direction. We feel completely jaded by the real estate market and dealing with realtors. Too much greed -- too little common sense.
