I left the camera and my puter in the car, and Suyen took it, so I took this pic with my cameraphone to mark the day.
Happy labor day, or whatever you say. With corporate greed and many people being sold on the rightwingnut line that this is a socialist commie day, it is a wonder that many people can enjoy this as a holiday. Because of a lot of short term investors going out of control a lot of people had to celebrate labor day by laboring. I hope that those who hate socialism and big gub'ment celebrated today by NOT taking the holiday and by going to work. I, however, think that this holiday should not be the bookend to the last days of summer, and should be on May 1st like it is everywhere else in the world. However BIG capitalism is afraid of a little democracy.
A friend of mine, and a GREAT GREAT GREAT storyteller who I had the privilege of working with and learned a lot from went on to move up and out of the workplace and got a masters degree. Today I was thinking about media agenda setting. Bob did a great documentary as part of his masters thesis here...... Unfortunately it's a facebook link and you have to log on to facebook to see it. I hate that. The documentary is tremendous and sums up my day very well.
I ended my day by going to my favorite coffeehouse. SSSssshhh, don't tell anyone, there was a punk show there tonight. Kansas City needs to have more of these kind of things. If we did, then the next thing you know the economy would be doing better and we wouldn't need to give away our city to huge developers. Maybe that's why things like this are always shut down.

YJ's had a crowd because there were bands playing. I wonder why this kind of thing can't be happening everywhere in this city all the time. Well, I know the answer. My opinion is that this would be good for business if the city were more progressive and less hung up on the police state puritan thingy. Kansas City has had a long history of being down on this sort of thing since the 1930's.
