Sunday I worked 10 to 6 with Bob. We started on a fire down at 171st in rural Johnson County. We ended up doing a story about a Grandview teacher attacked by a special education student.
After a long day, I met up with Suyen at Central Perk. She had been shopping for clothes all afternoon, and she got herself a leather jacket. She spent a good part of the evening trying on clothes.
On Monday, I worked with Tess. It has been one year ago to the day when Kim and I were sent to a shooting on the far eastern fringe of Kansas City. 2005 had been a violent year, and this murder was the 114th one. But this one hit home harder than most. This was a guy who loved to ride his bycycle back and forth to work. He was riding home one cold November morning from his job at Hyvee on 40 hyway, when two bored young men decided to shoot him for the fun of it. Over the past year I have met his family, and have seen how they have tried to make a difference out of this senseless killing. They have been lobbying for more effective police enforcement, and for more active involvement on the part of the public. Here is their website:

In between liveshots, I got some pictures:
At 47th and Blue Ridge, a shopping center that has seen better days has this nicely maintained example of mid-century googie still going strong
I walked over and snapped this picture between liveshots. This is at 47th and Blue Ridge, on the line between Kansas City, Missouri and Independence, Missouri
