We went to go visit Suyen's friend, Tess, from the Philippines, who is now working in a hospital lab in Chanute, Kansas.

Somehow I've just not been able to get around to it. I'm just dipping a pole in the water -- this is not really fishing, but it is sooooo nice to relax this way for once.
Suyen and Tess worked in the same hospital together in Cebu. Now Tess is here in the US with her family, sponsored by the hospital. There is a severe shortage of qualified hospital personnel in rural hospitals in the US. In the Philippines, there is an overabundance of medical professionals. They are recruited to come to the US to help fill the void, and the money is much better than what they would get in the Philippines.

Suyen and I (well, mainly me) decided to take in a walk before heading back home after visiting Tess and her family.
This stuff is sitting trackside at the Chanute depot. You can even walk inside the caboose, which is in dire need of some love.

boB drove in from Topeka to meet me so I could loan him the Samsung camcorder, so he can try and document some of the Embarrasments show which is taking place in Lawrence at Liberty Hall Sunday night.

We et here. Apparently, most of the downtown square of Harrisonville is owned by an eccentric millionaire named Dell Dunmire. This resturant is one of his. I had eggs, ham, hash browns, wheat toast and coffee. It was good to get a chance to take in some grub between our lives. It was also cool to see this place open on a Sunday morning.

This is the lovely story that broke over the weekend. It is apparently drug related, and there maybe the remains of six or seven human beings spread out in there.
