In my rounds I tried out the Main Street Coffeehouse in Independence.  There were a few young hipsters hanging out front, and the inside seemed pleasant.  There were a couple of soccer moms, a business person and lot of old pictures of the courthouse and square in Independence.  The barista seemed to be competent.  He asked me if I wanted my douche drink (soy capaccino with sugar free vanilla) dry or wet.  I didn't really know what he mean so I asked for wet.  I think it is the opposite of what I really wanted.  I was a good drink either way.  I read the hours on the door, and they seemed to be okay for a coffeehouse.  I think they got rid of the jeebiz door handles from one of the previous owners of the place when it was a "higher grounds" kind of xian shuv doctrine down yer throat kind of place, which is a good thing.

No easy solutions to complicated systematic issues.  Everyone seems to have an answer to failing urban schools, yet year after year, they continue to fail.  Dirty little secret, though, suburban schools are failing just as badly too.
