Our internet has been down so I haven't been able to post for a few days.

Mardi Gras is February 20th

I did this story with
Bob on Saturday. The old Columbus park section of town has a neat history. We didn't get to do our liveshot though, as we couldn't get a signal and we were sent to a driveby shooting that occurred in broad daylight at the Walgreens at 46th and Troost.

Sunday Morning I worked with Kim. They didn't have much for us, so we eventually got to do my rainy day story on Paul and Carol, the owners of the building at 18th and Wyandotte, and patrons of the arts in KC. I shot this stuff back in October.

Moanday I worked with Nancy. There was a gas leak in Blue Springs. People had to be evacuated. We were live at 5 & 6.

Tuesday I worked with Nancy again. We went to Blue Springs on a story about vandalism. As I edited the Package, they found the body of the girl that had been missing from Arkansas City Kansas. Some of her family lives in Blue Springs, so they sent Nancy and Jason there to knock on their door. They wouldn't talk. So I drove out to meet Nancy and we did our live. Earlier in the day I went to the Sprint store to deal with a problem with my phone. My card died. so they gave me a new one. I also got the new USB EVDO card for the mac -- a Novatel 720. It is on a 30 day trial so we'll see.

Today I had vo patrol. I was having trouble installing the EVDO card so I went to the Sprint store. Though they swear it works with a mac, none of the people there could do it, though one of them tried for an hour and a half. Then I had to go to work. Since I was on vo patrol and they didn't have anything for me, I went to the Apple store. Part of what I'm doing is for work anyway so they have no problem with me doing it. The guy at the genius bar helped me though I wasn't on the list. He downloaded a driver for me though he had trouble doing that which came from somewhere here. I farted around with it and followed the directions which read thusly....

Welcome
This Novatel720.pkg installer will load drivers so your Mac can connect to the Internet using a Novatel Merlin 720 PC Card or Ovation USB Modem.

Just bought a new Sprint Novatel Ovation U720 EVDO modem from Sprint and found out it didn't work with my Mac (after being told by a local Sprint store and reading on Sprint's website that it did). Finding out that it actually wouldn't work sure sucked! :(

Now reading that any drivers from Apple will only work on new Intel Macs. Great. :( Should we all just TOSS our nearly new Apple notebooks because Sprint won't invest in a native OS X Connection Manager app that works on ALL Macs? That's not cool.

Maybe someday Sprint won't just use Macs in all of their marketing material, but actually SUPPORT them. Its bad enough that I had to borrow a relative's WinBlows machine just to get my U720 working.

Look at the image on the front of the Sprint U720 jewel case: it shows a fellow in a suit typing on a POWERBOOK (you can just barely make out the gray plastic airport antenna covers on the side of the LCD bezel... its a Mac for sure). What kind of crap is THAT. LOL!

BIG shout-out to the good people of www.evdoforums.com. I found the answers I was looking for there. Would have had to return my new U720 had it not been for them. This driver package installer is a way of saying THANKS! :)

I went back to vo patrol after somehow getting it to work. YES, Sprints Novatel 720 works with a MAC -- It will get you on the internet with a mac!!!! The good citizens started getting active. A dog bit a cop, and a woman died in a car wreck. I went there first, and then Nancy and Jason went there and met Mike with the SNG truck. Here is the story.
