Episode IV, A New Hope!

Not trying to brag, but look at this....

We looked at a house in Merriam, and the flat top house again. Then we decided almost as an afterthought to look at this one.

The Kitchen is almost perfect.

It has a formal dining room.

Another view of the dining room.

We walked in the front door and Suyen gasped!

This is the downstairs party area. The picture does not do it justice. There is actually an exercise area and dance floor to the left. Jania, our agent didn't understand what the switch on the wall was until she flipped it on and turned on the dance lights. It was funny. This neighboorhood is full of what I would call 1980's contemporary modern. Mid-century modern houses fell out of favor in the mid 60's with the romanticism of the flower children of the late 60's and early to mid 70's. Also the cynicism of that era kind of did in the optimistic styles of architecture that is expressed in mid-century modern and googie. The styles lived on through the 70's in certain office spaces, apartments and lake homes. However, after the grim messy era that was the 70's, many began to yearn for the optimistic classicist styles of modern life. Thus began to spring up modern architectural styles in residential single family homes. We managed to find a neighborhood full of fine examples of 1980's modern contemporary homes.
