I finished dubbing railZEN to HDV. It looks like I have most of my videos that I edited dubbed to High Definition tape. Now I have to try to get caught up in my editing. The weather is relenting for awhile, so I might be able to get caught up. It looks like the severe weather has shut off and we have gone into a summer pattern. We will see in the next week or so. Today I went to bed late again, and we got up late. I fixed the remaining turkey sausage on the grill. It was good with the pancakes and cawfeee.

I Spent the morning dubbing stuff to HDV. I'm almost done with that. I went to bed late and woke up late. I worked with PHE today. We went to KCK then Leavenworth. I had to edit in edit 5 as we had no time to batch. Suyen picked me up lated. At home, I started dubbing the railZEN that I wasn't able to get earlier to HDV.

Overview:
A slow moving line of severe thunderstorms brought damaging winds and tornadoes to Missouri and Illinois. Damage survey teams are in the field and updated information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
Bismarck (St. Francois County, Missouri)
Most of the damage in Bismarck, Missouri was caused by one small tornado. The survey of damage indicated a brief tornado touched down near Highway BB and Cherry Street, then moved eastward to the northeast edge of town along School Drive. Most of the damage was to trees, with minor roof dmage also common. More substantial damage was done to a preschool building along Campus Drive, with the gabled roof torn completely from the well constructed masonry building and thrown into the adjacent parking lot. Damage patterns showed reliable indications of rotation. The path length was approximately 1 mile long and 200 yards wide. The severity of roof damage to the preschool building warrents an intensity ranking of EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

We awoke early to loud thunder. I checked the radar to see we were on the northern non-severe end of a derecho that was pummeling Joplin and Springfield. The storm by mid-morning had carved a path of destruction through Missouri and was attacking Illinois. In some instances, on radar, it looked like an inland hurricane. I took Suyen to woik after we et ravioli at YJ's. It has been a pleasant day. I took Tima on a walk and we went to IPAS to look over doo dads. I went back to YJ's, and tried unsucessfully to get videos out of my HDV camera.

I took Suyen to woik early. I took the van to Blue Springs to have the oll changed and to look at other issues with the van. I then went to Patricia's in Odessa to get that flat screen video monitor. I picked Suyen up and we went to Wife's Enemy #2, then to look at the car lot on Prospect that has the old Mast ambulances -- most of which had nearly 300,000 miles on them and were in bad shape. We then went to Grandview to the junky surplus store to look at the wharehouse items, which were mostly overpriced piles of junk on pallets. We then went to Price slopper to get mom's mothers day card and plant, then we went to Mom and Dad's. Afterward we went storm chasing on I-70. There was a storm coming out of Chillicothe that had produced and was continually cycling a tvs marker. We went as far as Hustonia. We saw a hellacious Wall cloud as we exited at Sweet Springs. By Hustonia it was petering out. As we left it was cycling again on it's way east. There was a batch of storms way to the west and the ones we chased to the east with a big hole over KC.

A series of potent upper level disturbances along with an increasing amount of moisture streaming northward out of the Gulf of Mexico produced a period of very active weather across the central United States. Several rounds of severe weather and flooding was the end result, with many locations receiving upwards of 2 to 4 inches of rainfall. However, the biggest story from the weekend was the tornadic activity Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. For a summary and track of each tornado, please read the separate sections below.

Tornado #1:
On Saturday evening, April 25th a tornado touched down in southwest Leavenworth county in Kansas at 6:35pm. National Weather Service representatives along with local emergency management officials from Leavenworth county have conducted a damage survey from the tornadic activity which occurred over southern Leavenworth county.
Initial survey results indicate damage to several homes, numerous out buildings and trees, along with additional ground scouring along the tornado path. Leavenworth This damage was produced by an EF-0 to EF-1 rated tornado, with maximum speeds between 86 and 110 mph.
The tornado produced a damage path of an estimated 8 miles, with reports and observations indicating this tornado remained on the ground around 15 minutes. Survey officials reported a damage path from 50 to 75 yards wide with two homes sustaining moderate EF-1 damage. There were also several barns damaged or destroyed. Aereal surveys indicated that this tornado touched down at 238th Street and Loring crossed I-70, and then stayed nearly parallel to the interstate as it moved northeast to near 190th Street and Metro Avenue.

Tornado #2:
At 917 pm cdt, a second weak EF-0 tornado was reported Saturday evening. This brief tornado touchdown occurred just south of the city of Cameron, MO near the Cameron airport. No damage was reported with this brief touchdown.

On Sunday morning, while pulling cable to try to get my camera attached for a liveshot, I stepped on a nail or some sort of sharp object. In the afternoon, for precautionary measures, I went to the emergency room to have a tetanus shot. On Monday I had to process workers comp. I got some anti-biotics and have to go in on Friday, but otherwise I'm fine.
I did a little storm chasing tonight. It was nothing much, not that I expected it to be. There was one storm that started looking interesting when it popped up south of here. I was doing nothing so it was worth it to drive.

I saw a little cell southwest starting to take on some interesting characteristics. I was pretty sure it wouldn't do much, but I decided, what the hell. So I chased to 135th and 69, then headed east on 135th, after having to restart my stream and my weathertap, due to bad cell service. I got into some heavy rain about then, and some lightening. By the time I made Grandview, I decided, whatever it was it was fizzling out. So I headed back to YJ's.

On Sunday morning, while pulling cable to try to get my camera attached for a liveshot, I stepped on a nail or some sort of sharp object. In the afternoon, for precautionary measures, I went to the emergency room to have a tetanus shot. On Monday I had to process workers comp. I got some anti-biotics and have to go in on Friday, but otherwise I'm fine.
I did a little storm chasing tonight. It was nothing much, not that I expected it to be. There was one storm that started looking interesting when it popped up south of here. I was doing nothing so it was worth it to drive.

I saw a little cell southwest starting to take on some interesting characteristics. I was pretty sure it wouldn't do much, but I decided, what the hell. So I chased to 135th and 69, then headed east on 135th, after having to restart my stream and my weathertap, due to bad cell service. I got into some heavy rain about then, and some lightening. By the time I made Grandview, I decided, whatever it was it was fizzling out. So I headed back to YJ's.

Loaded Van 2. Streamed to the website. It is raining and lightening. We went to Lowes in Lee's Summit. We waited to do lives due to lightening. We set up but couldn't get a signal. We did a look live and had to rush it back as no one was at the station to take a feed. I unloaded Van 2, Kim edited. We headed to the scene of a suspicious death. It turned out to not be a homicide. We went back to Lowes and shot our package. We headed back. I got gas and we got vittles at QT. I went to the station to pick up Al.

This easter was a repeat of last year. There was no reporter. I started out by doing lives from the sunrise service in Volker Park. I ended up by doing the easter egg hunt at 36th and Gilham. It was cold out today, but not as cold as last year. Also, last year we had blustery winds and flurries.

I started out after having to buy some Mini DV tapes for my Sony HDV cam and after having to get a DVD from Christo Rey at the church. I headed south down I-35. I thought it would be a marginal chase at best. I had Tima with me in the back seat. My streaming and radar worked well until I got north of Chanute. I was going to head for Springfield or Joplin, but after consulting with Mike, he told me the pickins were more ripe at Chanute. I headed down that way, and got some gas and some vittles at Caseys. I waited a bit as what had been looking promising to the west was petering out. However, a lot of cells were popping up all around me. I headed to the Chanute airport and saw a good storm rolling in. It had penny sized hail in it. I got to the airport, and saw what looked like a funnel to the east of me. I heard on the scanner that someone in town called it in and said it was above the family dollar at 16th and Santa Fe. Law enforcement called back and said they didn't see any rotation, but by the time they were looking it was gone. I called Mike and told him what I saw. I got the stream working again. He told me to head west where a cell was getting into some good moisture and heat. I headed out west at about 400 and Barber rd. I saw a good bit of scud which looked like it had tried to form up into a wall cloud. It was rain wrapped. I stopped at that intersection and shot some video and observed. It looked like it was trying to rotate but couldn't quite get it's act together. I followed that north then headed for home as it got dark. I found myself on some dirt and gravel roads and into some pea sized hail. After dusk, everything turned to regular ol' rain with some lightening and thunder. I saw a gorgeous sunset. I must note that Burlington Kansas seems to have a nice downtown with a great art deco theater. I'll have to visit someday.

March certainly went out like a lamb, despite the fact that two days before this picture was taken by the GM Fairfax plant, it had snow the heaviest snow of the year.
Tonight I streamed from west downtown as a storm rolled in. I used the fox 4 live chat to give weather reports and to chat with people on there and to let them see the live stream.
