Today I worked with Tess on a pit bull story. After a bad fatal pitbull attack in KCK, the city has decided to enforce their pitbull ban. We did a story tied in with that where a lady found a stray pitbull mix breed dog that had been abandoned in the country. We went to the vet in Desoto that had the dog, then to the lady's house south of Belton where the dog was found. The we went to a place that places stray and abandoned animals. It was a long hot day, and we had to eng our live in KCK. Phew! Suyen had the day off and spent a lot of it cleaning.
OKEY, so I posted this on MYSPACE first -- SUE ME!!!!

Today I worked with Bob. We went to Edwardsville to do the story about the disputes going on there between police officers, The Fraternal Order of Police, the Mayor, and members of the city council. We talked to a Sargent about the situation, and some people who are tired of all the shennanigans. I also got a vo of a gymnastics meet off of Front Street in KCMO.
Tonight we went to my sister, Debbies for some BBQ. We brought Tima, and walked with her around the block. I gave my old friend, Jeff, a call. My phone kept cutting out though.

Today I worked with my 3 favorite people -- Me, Myself, and I. Actually I was on vo patrol and ended up shooting two packages. The first was my first call -- that was to 83rd and Roe where a kid was hit by an SUV. The kid apparently was jogging and ran through a light. I was late into work because not only do the dum dumbs have the west side of the loop blocked off, but also they have the south side of the loop blocked off. Why don't we just block the whole loop off, it was a bad idea anyway. The second story was with Leslie -- leaders got together at the Bruce R. Watkins Community Center to register their disdain in the community about the recent killings that happened last weekend. They railed against the "stop snittching" shirts. Afterward, Leslie and I had to load a van -- van 1 and take it to Blue Springs where a child nearly drowned at the YMCA. I then drove Ryans car back. I started editing the package on the child struck that Kim wrote and voiced, but as I had to do all that other stuff, Phil finished it. I went to Y.J.'s and saw Bill. I asked him if I could find an artist to feature for this upcoming first friday.

Yesterday, Steve and I did a follow up story in Clinton, Missouri. It has been one month since the tragic Elks Lodge collapse that killed the president. No one is still sure what caused the building to collapse. Our focus was on how the collapse of the buildings has affected business on the square. The north part of the square around the buildings is still closed. It is expected that next week the cleanup will begin. Today I have off -- it feels like it's been forever.

This is what we did last Friday evening. Suyen really enjoyed the sunset. We had eaten at our favorite FAT place, Taquiria Mexico. We went up by hospital hill to see if some houses we are interested in are still for sale. Then we headed to Cheauteau (I'm sure I misspelled that) point to watch the glorious sunset. Others were there too, and some lady was video taping the sunset with her HD cam -- I think she was doing a timelapse too. It is a shame that after the sun goes down on this park the urchins, druggies and wierdo's come out to take it over. When we left the lady was still there, I wonder how she fared. You could see some guy intent on ruining the sunset by yakkity yakking on his cellphone. We then went to Kawfeee at Crave, then home.

Thursday 20 July:(cont.) I shot video with Lori using my dashcam -- including our standup which worked well. We were live by the sports authority. Man, what gorgeous weather.
Friday 21 July: I was with Steve. We did a story on the redevelopment of Berkely park. My cell phone was lost.
Saturday 22 July: VO patrol. We did a live at 5 from Blue Springs -- the lutheran church that got vandalized. I went to YJ's after, then to the Rollerwarriors final game at Hale arena.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b76uz5Dwaeo
It was spectacular as over 3000 people showed up. It is good to see Kansas Citians getting off their collective apathetic asses and supporting something for a change.
Sunday 23 July: With Kim for morning lives. There was a bad shooting overnight at about 82nd and Wornall in the Waldo area at a private party held at the knights of Columbus. That was our first live. We went to JCCC for our second -- Ride for Kids. We packaged that. In the afternoon I tried to get ahold of the Ditty Bops www.dittybops.com to do a nats package on them riding across country on their bikes for their tour. I finally got them at about 17:00, but it was a bit late to do anything but a vo/sot.
Monday 24 July: Story with Tess -- Edwardsville KS developers want to build a new urbanism plan south of the speedway. They are not getting an answer from the city on how to proceed. Our live was from the fire station south of speaker road on 110th.
Tuesday 25 July: We got up and walked. Suyen is going to have an ultrasound done on her breast at WMMC.

Monday 17 July: I had traded days off with Ryan so he could spend some time on Thursday and Friday with his brother before his wedding. We spent Monday afternoon in Warrensburg. We visited the lab and Suyen informed her boss of the impending job change. We ate at our favorite Chinese Butt fey place. I hate Chinese Butt Fey. We got some things at the dollar store, including some pink flamingos for the yard -- hee hee. We went by my parents house to check on the dog. It is very very very hot outside.
Tuesday 18 July: Second day off. We spent most of this hot day inside relaxing and recovering. We headed out in the afternoon to run our errands. We went to Cheauteau Park to watch the sunset. Suyen enjoyed it. We stopped by Crave Cafe then headed to check on the Dog. Then we headed home.
Wednesday 19 July: Moanday -- I worked with Nancy on a story about local reaction to the Isreali/Hezzbolla war. We talked to a man from Lebanon and an Isreali emmassary. We did our lives at the Jewish Center in OP. I busted my knee trying to get out of the truck. It is a cut, not very deep, but hurts like a mother....
Thursday 20 July: Man, when you're working, time goes by so fast..... This is the first day I work for Ryan. I worked with Lori on a story about the west side of the loop being closedn-- Uhg!!!!

New Videos
Ok, first of all, on Sunday night, my nats package that I worked so hard on aired. It is about the KC Rollerwarriors, Kansas City's flat track roller derby league. Al was great and had a place for it in sports. He even let me run 3 minutes plus on it, which is a long time for television.
On a personal note, I'm playing catchup on on my blog videos, so instead of editing them into the appropriate days, I will put them here. The begin at the end of June with dashcam video of the Clinton, Missouri Elks Club collapse, they go through the 4th weekend, and end up now...
Hope you enjoy....
Driving in the rain the day I shot the Rollerwarriors Game, Saturday June 24
Heading down to Clinton Missouri Monday, June 26th, the night the Elks Lodge collapsed, killing one man. I came rolling in home at 6 the next morning....
The next day, we and everybody were doing liveshots in Clinton. I was running camera for this evenings lives, I had to take a break and go to the bathroom at a convenience store on the next block over.
That Wednesday, we were doing more lives and more stories. The ranks of the media were thinning out by then.
Suyen and I went to Lawrence to go to my favorite barber for a haircut on one of our days off.
On Saturday, my Moanday, we were back in Clinton, covering the parade that the Elks were hosting and working on when their building collapsed. It was very touching as they went on with the show, You can see the wienermobile. Then afterward, we headed out of town after a loooong day. I still took the opportunity to "wind the clock."
I was asked to delete some files.....
Driving in Odessa Missouri on our way to Powell Gardens, Sunday 2 July 2006
Some of the Powell Gardens fireworks display, Sunday, 2 July, wth Debbie and Meagan and Mathew...
As I was driving home that Monday night 3 July 2006, I caught some of the fireworks display over Kauffman Statdium...
Here is First Friday in the Kansas City Crossroads for 7 July 2006, edited to the music of Crieghton Organization, who played at Stretches Beer Garden on the east side of the crossroads.
Yesterday we headed to Warrensburg so that Suyen could get a mammogram, and so that she could tell her boss that she got a job in Kansas City. Oh yeah, that is the exciting news. Suyen has a job offer at the Midwest Organ Transplant Network.
That is all I have for now, more will be coming as soon as I can add it. I will also be going through boB's videos and add them as well. No boB, I haven't forgotten you.

First, the update:
Thursday 13 July: After we went home, Debbie called us. We met her later and ate at Tanners downtown. That night it rained like crazy -- very hardcore rain.
Friday 14: We went to Redemptorist at 11. Then we went and ate at Boston Market -- good food. We went driving around Brookside and got flyers for houses. We ate again at Boston Market, then went to Westport. We headed home but stopped at Sonic for Banana splits in Oak Grove.
Saturday 15: I worked different hours. I filled in for Ryan, so I worked 14:30 to 10:30. I got to woik with Leslie. We ended up doing a story on an alleged pit bull attack of a little girl in Independence. We couldn't get a live shot out there.
It is a rough shift.
Sunday 16: After working the rough shift on Friday, I got called to go out to Grain Valley about 00:30. It was reported as a double homicide, but it later turned out to be a single homicide of a wife of a very high profile prosecutor. It is in a very new very nice neighborhood. I ended up rolling into bed at 05:00. Then I had to be back at work at 10:00. Bob and I went back out to Grain Valley. Understandibly, none of the neighbors that knew the family wanted to talk to us.
We went back to the station to edit, then I drove van 1 out to the police station for our live. Jason was a lot of help. Afterward, I went to Y.J.'s to sort of decompress.
Monday 17: I'm off, and Suyen has to do a breast exam, so we are in Warrensburg hangin' at Java Dive until her appointment. This is a nice place. Teehaus is closed for summer vacation.

Here's an update.....
Sunday 9 July: I worked with Lori in the morning on lives about a water garden tour. The yard we were in had a Garden railroad operating all around it and some peacocks -- really neato. I worked with sports later after the lives with an interview with the Royals general manager and then a vo/sot at the 810 Zone about the World Cup. After woik I went to Y.J.s, and ran into Bill. We talked about all the goings on in the crossroads. He took me to the After Dark Gallery and to a place by where Wierd Stuff used to be where a guy is producing plays.
Monday 10 July: I woiked with Nancy. We were at first going to do OP Pitbulls, but then when we realized the OP meeting was going to be held on Wednesday, we got re-directed to do William Hung, the American Idol Wannabe who's rendition of "she bangs" was pretty awful -- so awful that it made him sort of a star in his own right and now he sings all over the US. Today he was singing at the T-Bones. He seems like a really nice guy. I wish him luck in his endeavors.
Tuesday 11 July: I woiked with Tess. On this day we were only going to do an interview on a piece she is working on. However, we got sent to a barracaded subject threatening to kill himself in Olathe. We managed to get video of him surrendering, so that was good. I was in the Air Force for 4 years plus one year in the reserves, but I NEVER got to call in air support, until now. I called in Skyfox to get shots of the Olathe PD apprehending the guy. I the wee hours of the morning, I got paged to go to a fatal accident in Grain Valley. A 16 year old killed himself in a one car crash. If he had his seat belts on, it may have been a different outcome than what it was.
Wednesday 12 July: I woiked with Shelly. We were to do the Olathe Pit Bull story yet again. It turned out to be pretty much vo material -- no decision was forthcoming. We got sent to Grain Valley to cover the candle light vigil for the 16 year old. It was a wierd atmosphere -- like over a hundred teens eating pizza and hanging out, and some seemed to be enjoying it, like it was a party. We talked to the teens girlfriend and friend. They were pretty broke up by the whole deal. We did lives for the 9 & 10.
Thursday 13 July: Today Suyen had a doctors appointment. She's had an itch in a private area that needed attention. We then ate at TJ's downtown, and I got August Trains at Show Me Rail. We then went shopping on Metcalf. I got an adaptor ring for my wide angle lens on my camera. If you look at the later pix in the house, you can see the wide angle lens. Unfortunately theres a little vignetting, but not too bad. Suyen got sick from the heat waiting for me in the car, so we came home after the photo shop.
I've added some videos:

Here's an update.....
Sunday 9 July: I worked with Lori in the morning on lives about a water garden tour. The yard we were in had a Garden railroad operating all around it and some peacocks -- really neato. I worked with sports later after the lives with an interview with the Royals general manager and then a vo/sot at the 810 Zone about the World Cup. After woik I went to Y.J.s, and ran into Bill. We talked about all the goings on in the crossroads. He took me to the After Dark Gallery and to a place by where Wierd Stuff used to be where a guy is producing plays.

Okay, to summ up what I've been up to.....
July 1 -- Saturday, went out to Clinton again with Lori. We did a follow up story on the Olde Glory Days parade, the one the Elks was preparing for when their building collapsed.
July 2 -- Sunday, worked with Kim -- had no live at 7, but soloed a live at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church -- it was their day they spent honoring American servicemen. Km and I did vo patrol afterward. Then I spent part of the afternoon working on my Nats Package. In the afternoon and evening, Suyen and I went to Powell Gardens where my sister and her family goes every year and listened to the tail end of the Orchestra concert and watched the fireworks display. Afterward, we went to Dennys to have Ice cream. When we got home, I completely collapsed into bed -- my time on the road has been wearing me out.
July 3 -- Monday, worked with Shelly on a follow up to a story about a kid who locked himself in the trunk of his parents car. He was doing very poorly as he was there a long time before his parents discovered him and it was HOT on Sunday. Our angle was that cars now come with latches inside the trunk so that people can get out of them. I got to lock Shelly in a trunk for our standup -- well, not really, but the story turned out well and everyone remembered the standup.
July 4 -- Tuesday, Happy 230th USA!!!! Nancy and I went to Smithville Lake where we got to ride along with the Water Patrol -- Fun!!!! It turned out to be a good story too. At night the fireworks display over KCK was awesome -- I mean, the backyard display that everyone was doing. We got called out on breaking news, and we had a very surreal time driving through all the fireworks displays listening to the 1812 Overture being played on KCUR.
July 5 -- Wednesday, the Day After. I got the day to work on some things, like cleaning my work car and doing some other odd errands that have to be done. The big thing, though is that I got a lot of time to work on my Nats package, which I really needed. I did Tess and Ryans liveshot -- eng'd it, that is, and it was interesting. Butch Rigby, who runs Screenland and other theatre ventures in KC, is opening up the old Granada in KCK. That theatre was used in Robert Altmans film, "Kansas City." Way to go Butch!!!!
July 6 -- Thursday -- Day Off -- Suyen and I went to something I will write about later but can't really discuss for now. It is exciting though. I finished editing my Nats Package waiting for her. Then we went to my parents for dinner and my dads favorite movie "Shane."
July 7 -- Friday -- DAy Off -- First Friday -- Suyen had conspired (planned) with her co-workers to go out to a movie at AMC Theaters in Independence. Her co-worker, Mary, read "The Davinci Code" and wanted to see the movie, so we went. Afterward we et at BD's Mongolian. We then took Mary to her car in Oakie, and Suyen and I headed to First Friday. My Nats Package will air on Sunday after this one. First Friday was great. We spent a lot of time just walking around and seeing all the different people. I saw and talked to a lot of people I know. I talked to Rick Probst, and he was happy with the little thing I did on him from last time......
I saw James and CJ at Stretches Beer Garden. Suyen even seemed to enjoy this First Friday, and she HATES art...
Today, I worked with Bob for the first time in 3 weeks. He came off vacation. Today we did a story on a sad home invasion that ended in murder. The guy was a devoted father of 3 kids. It happened at 33rd and Mersington. I shot a vo/sot on the KCK police trying to recruit minorities. I got a neat tour of the Command post vehicle. I edited Bob's package and finished dubbing my nats package. After work I went to the Y.J.'s. I met Bill, who I've been trying to get his number for a source, since the Crossroads is my beat. We talked for a long time about what we should do as far as stories on the Crossroads. He took me to the After Dark gallery, then to this place over by where Weird Stuff antiques used to be. There is a person there he introduced me to that has to great plays that we should do stories on. AFterward, I came home to my loving wife and chicken salad -- MMMMmmmm.
I have pictures and videos to post, but no time to do it. I will work on it when I have time, including boB's stuff.
